Who are they
The “exec” are current students elected by their peers to ensure students voices are heard throughout the activity of the Union. These officers sit on the Unions executive committe alongside the six sabbaticals and ensure that the Students' Union looks after the needs of, and represents, YOU, the students of Swansea.


There are 21 positions;

 

Title; Accommodation Officer

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the executive committee.
•    Work closely with the Welfare Officer on campaigns relating to accommodation issues.
•    Liase with the Universities Residential Services to discuss potential problems or issues with accommodation.
•    Work to raise the profile of student accommodation issues in a way which is easily understood by students.

 



Title; Black Students Officer
To stand for the position of Black Students Officer a candidate must self-define as a Black Student

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the Executive Committee.
•    Attend the Universities Race Relations Working Group
•    Represent black students should they have difficulties with accessibility you must lobby for change. You should also increase awareness of the problems facing black students at Swansea.
•    Work closely with the Womens’ Officer to raise awareness of issues facing Black Students.
•    Work to ensure that the Unions upholds its policy of promoting equality and diversity.

 




Title; Childcare Officer

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the executive committee.
•    Work closely with the Womens’ Officer to campaign on issues affecting student parents at Swansea University.
•    Liase with the Unions’ Nursery staff to ensure that parents are aware of their representation on the executive.
•    Meet with parents regularly to ensure that student parents are listened to and effectively represented.

 

 


Role; Communications Officer

Key Roles
•    Represent student on the executive committee.
•    Monitor the output of the publicity and communication both within and outside of the Union.
•    Be mindful of the Unions’ image and attempt to ensure that officers are mindful of this too.
•    Work with the Research department annually to ascertain student perception and understanding of the Union

 


Title; Community Representative

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the Executive Committee.
•    Attend the Universities and Residents Partnership Meetings.
•    Work closely with the Union President to monitor the Unions image in the community and make sure that there is a positive message about students coming from the Union.
•    Work closely with the Union President on campaigns designed to raise the awareness of “one community” with students and local residents living together.

 


Title; Entertainments Officer

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the executive committee.
•    Work closely with the Entertainments Department and its staff and report back to the Executive Committee.
•    Co-ordinate meetings between the liberation officers and the Entertainments staff to look at events and promotion and ensure that they are within our equal opportunities policy.
•    Work to ensure a varied entertainment programme for the whole student community at Swansea – this includes non-drinking events, niche events and liberation events.

 



Title; Environment and Ethics Officer

Key Roles

•    Represent students on the executive committee.
•    Raise awareness of environmental and ethical issues which affect students whether it be in SUSU, UWS or the local community.
•    Campaign alongside societies such as People and Planet and the Conservation society to put pressure on relevant organisations or individuals to adopt more environmental or ethical ways of doing things.
•    Attend the Universities Sustainability Forum
•    Attend the Universities Fairtrade Forum.
•    Work closely alongside the Societies and Services Officer to ensure that the Unions services are trading ethically.
•    Work with the Societies and Services Officer towards the NUS’ Sound Impact awards annually.

 



Role; General Secretary

Key Roles

•    Represent students on the executive committee
•    Chair the Officer Responsibility Group.
•    Ensure that Democratic Procedures of the Union are adhered to by all Union officers.
•    Chair the Disciplinary Committee
•    Ensure that the minutes and agenda of the Student General Meeting and Executive Committee are produced and recorded.

 


Title; LGBT Officer X 2 (1 Womens space and 1 Open Space)
As the LGBT Officer you must be self defined as an LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans-sexual) Student

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the Executive Committee
•    Attend the Universities LGBT forum
•    Represent LGBT students should they have difficulties with accessibility you must lobby for change. You should also increase awareness of the problems facing LGBT students at Swansea.
•    Work closely with the Womens’ Officer to raise awareness of issues facing LGBT Students
•    Liase with the LGBT society to support them in their events and promotion.

 



Title; Library Representative

Key Roles

•    Represent students on the Executive Committee.
•    Liase closely with the Education Officer.
•    Work to increase library services and ensure that students voices are heard when any changes are required.
•    Attend the Unions Course Representatives Assembly and encourage as many students as possible to become course representatives.
•    Monitor the annual survey about the Library service provisions.

 


Title; Mature Students Officer
The Mature Students Officer must be by definition a ‘mature student’ (twenty one or over on entry to University)

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the executive committee.
•    Work closely with the Education Officer to campaign on issues affecting mature students at Swansea University.
•    Attend the Unions Course Representatives Assembly and encourage as many students as possible to become course representatives.
•    Work to ensure the Union caters for mature students in its events and services.

 



Title; Part time Students Officer
The Part time Students Officer must be by definition a ‘Part time  student’ (completing a part-time course).

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the executive committee.
•    Attend the Unions Course Representatives Assembly and encourage as many students as possible to become course representatives.
•    Work closely with the Education Officer to campaign on issues affecting part-time students at Swansea University.
•    Work to ensure that the Union caters for part- time students in its events and services.

 



Title; Post-Graduate Officer
The Post-Graduate Officer must by definition be a post-graduate student.

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the executive committee
•    Work closely with the Education Officer to campaign on issues affecting postgraduate students at Swansea University.
•    Work to ensure that the Union caters for postgraduate students in its events and services.
•    Liase with any postgraduate societies or organisations on campus.
•    Attend the Unions Course Representatives Assembly and encourage as many students as possible to become course representatives.
•    Attend Swansea Universities Learning and Teaching Committee.

 


Role; Race Relations Officer

Key Roles

•    Represent students on the executive committee
•    Attend the Universities Equal Opportunities Committee
•    Work alongside the Sabbatical Womens’ officer and Black Students Officer.
•    Liase with societies on campus such as Amnesty, with The Race Relations Officer is responsible for
•    Work closely with the International and Overseas officer with regards to promoting events relating to your remit. For example, annual Holocaust Memorial Day.
•    Ensure that the Unions’ policy on racial and religious tolerance is firmly upheld

 



Title; Students with Disabilities Officer
As the Students with Disabilities Officer you must be self defined as disabled

Key Roles
•    Represent students on the Executive Committee
•    Attend the Universities Disabled Students Working Group
•    Represent students with disabilities should they have difficulties with accessibility you must lobby for change. You should also increase awareness of the problems facing disabled students at Swansea.
•    Work closely with the Womens’ Officer to raise awareness of issues facing Disabled Students

 



Title; Undergraduate Rep

Key Roles

•    Represent students on the Executive Committee.
•    Liase closely with the Education.
•    Ensure that the Education Officer is up to date with issues affecting Undergraduate students.
•    Attend the Unions Course Representatives Assembly and encourage as many students as possible to become course representatives.




Title; Welsh Affairs Officer

Key Roles

•    Represent students on the Executive Committee.
•    Attend and represent students at the Universities “Use of Welsh” committee.
•    Campaign to ensure that all Welsh medium policies are upheld within the Union.
•    Ensure that University upholds its commitment to teaching through the medium of welsh and that it is given equal status.
•    Run events in conjunction with Union staff to raise awareness of Welsh culture, particularly on St Davids Day.
•    Build links with the Welsh Society (Y Gym Gym), the Department of Welsh and Welsh communities in other Universities.
•    You may also wish to become involved in intercollegiate events and the Eisteddfod.
•    Organise a Delegation for NUS Wales Welsh Language Conference

 

 

Non - Portfolio Officers x2 positions


A Non- Portfolio officer is much like the rest of executive officers, however they do not have any key campaign or representative area. Therefore they are likely to be linked to anything from welfare campaigns to academic casework.

Key Roles
• Represent students on the executive committee.
• Work closely with all sabbatical officers on specific campaigns - this may
range from promoting the National Student Survey to working on the
SSSH campaign.
